Mulch and Composting
The Sanitation Division collects citizen yard debris in an effort to recycle these items into compost and mulch. Composting and mulching are nature's process of recycling decomposed organic materials. Compost is available for free for DeKalb residents at several locations within the County:
Compost - Northern Avenue & Memorial Drive (Next to the Tax Commissioner's Office)
Hours: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. (M-F)
Compost - North Transfer Station

Hours: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. (M-F); 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. (Sat)
Compost - Seminole Road Landfill

Compost - East Transfer Station

The procedure for picking up compost/mulch is as follows:
- Inform the scale attendant that you are a DeKalb County resident and that you would like to pick up some compost/mulch.
- Follow directions to the compost/mulch area.
Each resident is responsible for pickup/placing the compost/mulch in their designated container.
