Mulch and Compost

The Sanitation Division collects citizen yard debris in an effort to recycle these items into compost and mulch.  Composting and mulching are nature's process of recycling decomposed organic materials.


Compost

Compost is available for free for DeKalb residents at several locations within the County:

Northern Avenue & Memorial Drive (Next to the Tax Commissioner's Office)
     Monday - Friday:  7:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m.

North Transfer Station
4600 Buford Highway
Chamblee, GA 30341
     Monday - Friday:  7:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.
     Saturday:  7:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Seminole Road Landfill
4203 Clevemont Road
Ellenwood, GA 30294
     Monday - Friday:  8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.
     Saturday:  8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

East Transfer Station
1750 Rogers Lake Road
Lithonia, GA 30058
     Monday - Friday:  7:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.
     Saturday:  7:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

The procedure for picking up compost is as follows:

  • Inform the scale attendant that you are a DeKalb County resident and that you would like to pick up some compost.
  • Follow directions to the compost area.

Each resident is responsible for pickup/placing the compost in their designated container.

Delivery of Compost:  Compost can be purchased and delivered to your location at a cost of $7.50 per cubic yard.

Mulch

Mulch is only available at:
