| Q. |
Will my application be used for other positions or kept on file for future vacancies?
|
| |
A. |
Credentials are kept on file for two years and can be used for future vacancies, however, applicants are strongly encouraged to apply (re-apply) for the specific position of interest.
|
| Q. |
Why do you need an application when I submitted a resume on-line?
|
| |
A. |
The preferred method of applying for DHR positions is a cover letter and resume emailed to the respective agency. Some hiring officials may ask for an application. The job posting will clearly indicate the required method of applying for a position.

| Q. |
Many companies allow you to enter information directly to them, why do I have to buy books and software in order to send you my resume?
|
| |
A. |
In many instances you may submit your resume attached to an email. We may soon have a means for applicants to build a resume online and save to their personal PC for future use.
|
| Q. |
Can I submit my resume without applying for a specific position?
|
| |
A. |
Applicants are encouraged to apply for listed vacancies.
|
| Q. |
Will I be notified when I submit my resume?
|
| |
A. |
With some positions there is an email acknowledgement sent. However with most jobs the email acknowledgement is not used. Like many agencies (public & private) the large volume of resume's received doesnt allow us to contact everyone who applies for a job. DHR job announcements will provide the job seeker with an email address and email subject line content. As a large public entity, we are targeted by SPAM and/or malicious emails, thus its very important that the job seeker follow email instructions listed in the job announcement.
|
| Q. |
What is the process once you receive my resume?
|
| |
A. |
Within 1 week of the closing date all applications (resumes) are reviewed for the best qualified applicants for that particular vacancy. The best qualified candidates are then advanced to the hiring manager for interview consideration. Shortly after receiving this group of candidates, the hiring manager will contact individuals and schedule interview dates. Some positions may not have a closing date. On those positions, credentials are reviewed as they come in. Those applicants determined to be best qualified are forwarded to the hiring manager for interview consideration. Job seekers should check our employment page regularly and apply immediately for any vacancy of interest.

| Q. |
What do you look for in a resume?
|
| |
A. |
Generally speaking we are comparing the skill sets/responsibilities listed in the job announcement with the skill sets listed in the resume. Unfortunately many job seekers use the same, general resume to apply for multiple job titles. Rather than tailor their background, experience, and/or education for a specific position, many focus on the job title and not the job description/qualifications (e.g. a Social Worker for our Division of Mental Health, DD, and AD shares the title, but will probably have different responsibilities than a Social Worker employed by the American Red Cross). |
